While I never got egged on prom night, people were still cruel and insensitive. When I came out at 19, I was like Josie: un-kissed and a virgin. Cue an amazingly unrealistic plot where Josie goes undercover in a Chicago high school to write a juicy newspaper feature, ultimately resulting in her meeting a hot English Literature teacher and being crowned prom queen. Like many people, she wanted a love story of her own. Happy Valentine’s Day, beautiful people! Do let me know if you want me to write longer review for any of these films.Josie was a kindred spirit. Close that chapter and moved on to autumn! And what’s better to watch on Valentine’s Day than knowing that perhaps the one that got away was meant to be, you know, long gone. 500 Days of Summer is not a romantic film, but it has some comedy in it and a bittersweet love ending. The two dated but things didn’t go smoothly. The film, in a way, shows about Tom’s with Summer, and Summer’s obsession with not believing in true love. Years later, I will watch 500 Days annually on different occasions. I remember watching 500 Days of Summer for the first time and think, “What a wonderful and weird film”. For hopeless romantics out there, this is the film for you! 500 Days of Summer (2009) Their paths kept on crossing for years to come and they begin to think: Are they destined to be together? Serendipity has a cheesy concept but a great execution.
It all first started when the two met each other in a department store, followed by phone numbers being blown away by the wind (lol). Serendipity tells the story of Jonathan and Sara whose lives intertwined for many, many years. And the one that become a classic hit for me. Who would have thought that John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale will share a great chemistry in a cheesy yet entertaining love story. The film’s Californian setting and lifestyle sets up the mood for a laid-back romance, while the two actors chemistry is just pure magic! Again, MAGIC I TELL YOU! The ending will also put a wide smile on your face that involves two grown men on a beach with little kid and a dog. The two hit it off right away and things start to change when Shaun believes and encourages Zach to pursue his dream as an artist. When young aspiring artist Zach met his best friend’s older brother, Shaun, he got smitten.
The film is sweet, indie and just splattered with romance all over. Until I found a good one that is, Shelter. Yes, there are gay-themed romantic comedies, but sadly most of them are quite…. Okay fine, Shelter is not a rom-com film, but romantic it is and it has a sweet, happy ending, which is rare for a gay-themed film. But, most importantly, the film let you revisit your old flame, in this case it’s Melanie and Jake (played by hunk y hunk, Josh Lucas) – Mel’s high school sweethearts who can’t stand each other after seven years of separation. The film is about nostalgia and seeing how far you have made it in life. Why? She is getting hitched to a NY socialite. Reese Witherspoon plays Melanie Smoother, a reinvented Southern gal who needs to get a divorce from her small town husband in Alabama. I have a thing for Southern hospitality and old flames, and Sweet Home Alabama blends the two of them perfectly. Don’t be surprised if you caught yourself yelling to the screen, “He is the guy you fell in love with on the internet, damn it!”. The two’s love story is unconventional and will make you agitated on your seat. While, Mr Hanks gets to play Joe, a cocky character who embodies the over-masculinity he showed his sensitive side on the internet. Meg Ryan is sublime as Kathleen, this fierce yet feminine female in the 90s who sports short hair like no other. Is it easier to fall in love with someone you don’t know? What will happen when you meet them in real life? He turns out to be her business rival offline, oops! Directed by Nora Ephron, the film beautifully explores the falling in love bit amidst the rise of early technology. You’ve Got Mail (1998)Īh, You’ve Got Mail! The film centers around Kathleen, an independent bookstore owner who falls in love with a mysterious internet guy called Joe. If you are in the mood to watch rom-com then perhaps this can be of help. Not only have I seen these movies countless of times in certain occasions, but these films also have happy endings. Well, romantic comedies films.Ĭelebrating February 14th, I thought to myself why don’t I list down five rom-com films that are “Mesh Approved” (yes, I referred my name as a term). One thing’s for sure, like many of you out there, I like romantic films. I have never been a fan of Valentine’s Day but nor do I hated it. Hello, Valentine’s Day here you are again.
